According to the Times of IndiaTimes of India a Sixty-two-year-old Nalini Bolinjkar who has played Carrom in many national and international tournaments suffered a leg fracture after being beaten with sticks.

She claims she was attacked by Goldie Sood, a shopping centre owner, inside the entrance to her home on busy Linking Road on Saturday earlier this month.

She has lived there for over 30 years.

However in the past 2 years street vendors have made life hell for Nalini and the other residents. Despite repeated complaints to the police and other authorities nothing much has been done to stop the harassment.

The incident happened after Nalini returned to her apartment to find the entrance blocked. She contacted the police after being intimitated by the 3 stallholders and their assorted cronies.

A couple of hours later Nalini said Goldie returned in a rage and said he would teach her a lesson. He grabbed her by the shoulders and slapped her across her face, then he pushed her down onto the ground. She was unable to get up or defend herself. Then he grabbed a wooden stick from a security guard and beat her. She had severe injuries to the head, neck, arms and a fractured leg. No one came to help, despite her cries and eventually, she made her way, painfully, to the local police station. From there she was taken to Bhabha Hospital by the police.

What a terrible experience for anyone, never mind an elderly lady.

We wish her a speedy recovery and hope that the authorities do something to stop this happening again. We shall keep you informed whenever we receive any more information in this sorry matter.

We also hope to hear that Nalini continues playing Carrom and she has the good wishes of all Carrom players.

Keep on flicking.
