Close call in the Punjab
There were nearly 75 players from 6 states i.e Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttaranchal & Jammu &Kashmir.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there in person. However, I can imagine the atmosphere.
At times, tense, silent, except for the clack of the pieces carroming off the frame of the boards.
Other times, noisy, everyone talking, laughing, arguing.
I wonder if they served food or beverages?
What were the prizes?
Who pays for this?
Do they have sponsors?
Although the Punjabis take playing and winning seriously, I can’t imagine it to be a very solemn affair. They’re too full of life.
There will be photos and all the results on the Punjab State Carrom Association web site for you to check out. Have a look through the site. Some good stuff.

In the meantime here is a picture of the Golden Temple. Isn’t it beautiful?

There is also noisy atmosphere there(but not too much). i am from punjab and harpreet is my freind. he told me abt this website its khoool.
Punjabis take playing and winning seriously, this line makes me laugh bec only few punjabis are interested in carrom including us punjab is land of physical sports in which whole body works out and mind to. So people here dont like chess, carrom etc. because they dont know deepness of carrom.
Well sponsers are some officers of different department. Punjab state carrom association organize this tournament.
Prizes the prize is that the first 6th positioning players will play in all india interzonal tournament thats all.
they served excellent food i got 6th rank in junior boyss
Hi Kanwar
Thanks for your comments.
I know that Punjabis are very physical. I remember one time on a
train near Varanasi several carriages were filled with Punjabi
soldiers, all looked superfit, smart, clean, sitting up straight, not
like the ragtag UP wallahs. What I meant is they take winning
ANYTHING seriously, I think. It’s not a bad thing.
I’m going to add your comments to a blog i am doing soon on different
competitions, if that is OK. I will of course credit you.
I’m glad you like the site. Have you looked at the little sister
site. www.caromassociation.co.uk.? It’s hard work trying to get them
organised in UK. but I’ll keep trying.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could hold an international tournament in
London? I’m going to start buying a lottery ticket and when I win,
I’ll be able to just sort it all out.
Say hi to Harpreet for me.
Maggie
