Turmeric is a yellow coloured spice used a lot in Indian cooking. In laboratory tests a compound of the spice killed cancer cells. This report was written by researchers in Sept. 20 2004, International Journal of Cancer.

I wonder if they’ve found a way to remove turmeric stains from white blouses?

What has this to do with Carrom?

Well, most of the Carrom Champs are Indian.

OK they have one advantage. They grow up playing the game, you say.

But they also have another advantage and I am going to share the secret with you.

Curry. That’s it.

Chicken, channa pathora, masala dosa, chats, chowl, all lovely and hot, spicy, delicious.

If you don’t believe me read the article in the Scotsman.

Remember, Scotland gave the world such culinary delights as deep fried pizza and Mars bars.

That’s unkind.

They also have Ayrshire bacon, fresh salmon, pope’s eye steak, stovies, bridies and haggis to name a few delicacies.

But curry is my favourite food. And I’m not Indian. I know Indian cookery is different from state to state, but I’m using curry as a generic term.

Now when I eat my curry I am helping prevent cancer, alzheimers and possibly senility from spreading though my body and I’ll stay healthy.

As if I need an excuse.

Getting back to Carrom. As we Carrom players all know it looks easy to play and it is. A child can play it.

But to play it well is another story.

I think a lot of Indians are masters of the game because of their diet.

So what I want is to have curry and carrom nights.

There must be some Indian restaurants who have quiet nights near you.

Ask them if you can organise a few games there. You’d only need a couple of tables to get started.

Think of the perks. Good health, good food, good game, good company, couple of Indian beers. Sounds perfect.

Beats watching the telly.

Thanks for the comment. I can cook a few Indian dishes, but I have had so many Indian meals. In London there are plenty to chose from. I have been to India so I have had many different tastes. I don’t have a favourite style. Every region has something going for it.
